Week #3

Three things about German culture that surprised me:

1. Drinking in public. In Germany, you can drink alcohol pretty much anywhere in public, even the subway. This is a big difference from the US, but even more surprisingly, there aren't many problems that some may think this would cause. I see very few, if at all, disorderly and publicly intoxicated Germans causing trouble.

2. No air conditioning. Not in the house. Not even at work at a multi billion dollar company. This is partly because of energy costs, but partly, Germans seem to think AC is bad for you and you shouldn't be around it often. This sucks on the hot days.

3. Grocery shopping is a fierce sport. Do not hold up the cashier while looking for change. Put the food back into the cart ASAP after they scan it so that you don't get yelled at. And then pay and run.
